The 10 Tastings of Jakarta: Is This the Best Street Food Tour in Indonesia?

I recently joined The 10 Tastings of Jakarta, and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the city's food culture beyond the usual tourist attractions. The tour took me through hidden alleys, the lively streets of Blok M, and the historic Glodok Chinatown area. I got to try authentic Soto Betawi, Kerak Telor, and several traditional Indonesian snacks while learning the stories behind each neighborhood from the local guide. It felt like discovering a side of Jakarta that many visitors often miss. The experience reminded me that everyone enjoys food tours differently. Some travelers love visiting iconic food spots, while others prefer discovering small local vendors hidden away from the crowds. That's what makes every food journey unique. I'd love to hear about your favorite street food experiences or hidden local food gems. I'm always looking for new places to add to my next trip, so feel free to share your recommendations and stories

Following the Sound of Hidden Water at Curug Cibaliung

Image/images/stories/content/content-1781324634076-969673277.jpg A Hidden Waterfall Worth the Walk I recently visited Curug Cibaliung, one of the hidden waterfalls in the Sentul area of Bogor, and honestly, the journey itself became part of the experience. The trek wasn't extremely difficult, but it felt like a small adventure. The path led me through forest trails, rocky sections, and streams surrounded by thick greenery. Every step felt like I was moving further away from the city and closer to something untouched. Then I heard it. The sound of rushing water before I could actually see it. When Curug Cibaliung finally appeared between the trees, the first thing that caught my attention wasn't the waterfall itself it was the color of the water. Clear, bluish, and almost unreal. For a moment, it didn't feel like I was still near Jakarta. The Most Memorable Part of the Journey The Silence Before Reaching the Waterfall What stayed with me wasn't only the waterfall. It was the quiet moments during the trek. The sound of leaves moving in the wind. The occasional call of birds hidden somewhere in the forest. The feeling of crossing small streams while wondering what waited around the next corner. By the time I arrived, I felt like I had earned the view. The natural pool beneath the waterfall looked inviting, and the water was surprisingly clear. Looking down, I could see rocks beneath the surface almost perfectly. It felt like one of those places that still belongs more to nature than to social media. Travel Information Location Curug Cibaliung is located in the Sentul area, Bogor Regency, West Java, Indonesia. Entrance Fee 👉🏻 Approximately IDR 25,000–40,000 per person. 👉🏻 Prices may vary depending on management policies and parking fees. Transportation By Private Vehicle The easiest way is by motorcycle or car from Jakarta or Bogor using navigation apps. By Public Transportation Take a train to Bogor Station and continue with an online ride-hailing service toward the Sentul area. Best Time to Visit 👉🏻 Early morning 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM for cooler weather and fewer visitors. 👉🏻 Dry season is recommended for safer trekking conditions and clearer water. Local Culture & Etiquette 👉🏻 Respect nature by bringing your trash back out. 👉🏻 Avoid playing loud music. 👉🏻 Be polite to local residents and guides. 👉🏻 Follow safety instructions around slippery rocks and swimming areas. Trekking Tips Wear Proper Footwear Some parts of the trail can become slippery, especially after rain. Bring Dry Clothes If you're planning to swim, having spare clothes makes the return journey more comfortable. Pack Light The trek is easier when carrying only essentials such as water, snacks, and a small first-aid kit. Check Weather Conditions Heavy rain can affect trail conditions and water levels. Let's Discuss Have You Been to Curug Cibaliung? I'm curious about other travelers' experiences. 👉🏻 How difficult did you find the trek? 👉🏻 Did you swim in the natural pool? 👉🏻 Which hidden waterfall around Sentul impressed you the most? 👉🏻 Do you prefer visiting during weekdays or weekends? 👉🏻 Any tips for first-time visitors? I'd love to hear your stories, recommendations, and memorable moments from Curug Cibaliung or other hidden waterfalls around Bogor. 🌿💧

Eating Alone at Pasar Ah Poong Sentul Somehow Felt Surprisingly Comforting

Image/images/stories/content/content-1779521596267-375429668.jpg A Slow Afternoon by the River I arrived at Pasar Ah Poong without expecting much. At first, I thought it would only be another crowded food market near Sentul noisy, commercial, and filled with overpriced snacks. But the moment I stepped inside, something immediately felt different. The sound of flowing river water replaced the usual city noise. Wooden bridges connected small food stalls above the riverbanks, families laughed softly while eating together, and the smell of grilled satay mixed with fresh mountain air from the surrounding hills. Even though the place was busy, it somehow still felt peaceful. And strangely enough, being alone there did not feel lonely at all. The Floating Market Atmosphere That Felt Warm and Relaxing More Than Just a Culinary Spot Pasar Ah Poong is located in Sentul, Bogor, and is famous for its floating market concept beside the Cikeas River. The area combines traditional Indonesian food culture with a relaxing riverside atmosphere. I spent almost an hour simply walking around before deciding what to eat. Every corner smelled different. One stall served hot soto with fresh lime and chili. Another grilled ikan bakar over charcoal while smoke slowly drifted into the afternoon air. Traditional snacks like klepon, serabi, and tahu gejrot sat beside modern coffee stalls and trendy desserts. It felt like Indonesia in one small riverside market. The Meal I Still Remember Eating by the River Alone Felt Surprisingly Peaceful I finally ordered nasi liwet, chicken satay, and a glass of iced tea before finding a quiet seat near the river. The water moved slowly beneath the wooden deck while children fed fish nearby. Occasionally, a cool breeze carried the smell of rain from the distant hills. I ate slowly. Not because the food was expensive or luxurious, but because the atmosphere made me want to stay longer. For once, I was not rushing anywhere. And honestly, that simple moment became the best part of the trip. Little Things That Made the Experience Feel Real Friendly Vendors and Warm Local Energy One thing I genuinely appreciated was how friendly the local vendors were. A woman selling traditional snacks casually recommended her favorite fried banana stall nearby. Another food seller laughed when I asked for extra sambal and warned me it was “Bogor-level spicy.” Those small interactions made the place feel human instead of overly commercial. Even while sitting alone, I never felt out of place. Why Pasar Ah Poong Works Well for Solo Travelers A Comfortable Place to Slow Down Some destinations feel awkward when visited alone. Pasar Ah Poong was the opposite. Because people come here mainly to relax, eat, and enjoy the riverside atmosphere, nobody really pays attention to whether you arrive with friends or by yourself. You can simply walk around, explore food stalls, drink coffee near the river, and enjoy the scenery at your own pace. It is not a luxury destination. But it feels comforting in a very honest way. Tips for Visiting Pasar Ah Poong Sentul Location Pasar Ah Poong is located in Sentul City, Babakan Madang, Bogor Regency, West Java, Indonesia. Entrance Ticket & Costs • Entrance fee: Usually free • Parking fee: Around IDR 5,000–15,000 depending on vehicle type • Food prices: Around IDR 15,000–60,000 depending on menu choices Prices may change during weekends or holiday seasons. Best Time to Visit Morning or Late Afternoon • Morning visits feel cooler and less crowded • Late afternoon offers softer sunlight and relaxing riverside vibes • Weekdays are generally quieter compared to weekends Avoid arriving too late at night because some food stalls close early. Transportation Tips By Car or Motorcycle The easiest way is driving from Jakarta or Bogor toward Sentul City. The roads are relatively accessible and suitable for day trips. By Public Transportation You can take a train to Bogor Station, then continue using online transportation toward Pasar Ah Poong. Food Recommendations Some popular foods visitors usually try include: • Soto Bogor • Nasi liwet • Satay and grilled seafood • Traditional Indonesian snacks • Local coffee and fresh coconut drinks Local Culture & Etiquette The area is family-friendly and relaxed. Visitors are encouraged to: • Keep the riverside area clean • Respect food vendors and local workers • Avoid excessive noise near dining areas • Bring cash because some smaller stalls may not accept digital payments A Place I Would Gladly Return To I came to Pasar Ah Poong expecting only food. But somewhere between the river breeze, the smell of grilled satay, and the quiet comfort of eating alone, the place became more memorable than I expected. Sometimes solo travel is not about going far away. Sometimes it is simply about finding one peaceful corner where you can sit quietly, eat slowly, and feel present again for a little while. Have you ever visited Pasar Ah Poong Sentul alone or with friends? What food would you recommend trying first there?
